Marcus Capalbo, D.M.D.
Becoming a dentist was a lifelong dream for Dr. Marcus Capalbo. Growing up in a family of dentists, he always aspired to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, father and brothers. Dr. Marcus is the seventh dentist in his family. His father and uncle still practice in the office founded by his grandfather in Westerly, RI.
Dr. Marcus graduated from Providence College and then attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. At Tufts, he earned a Doctorate of Medical Dentistry degree. Following dental school, Dr. Marcus attended the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine where he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the UConn Health Center Hospital. Dr. Marcus still continues his education, taking classes and attending seminars all over the country.
Dr. Marcus enjoys staying active and is an avid golfer and skier. His favorite way to spend free time is with his family at the beach. He is passionate about animals and enjoys cooking. Dr. Marcus and his wife just welcomed a baby girl this January.
Elliot Kimmel, D.D.S.
Dr. Elliot Kimmel is a well-loved dentist. He earned a Masters in Oral Biology before going to Loyola University in Maywood, Illinois to receive his Doctorate in Dental Surgery. He has been married to his lovely wife, Hinda, for over 47 years. They have two married sons and four grandchildren so far. Dr. Kimmel is semi-retired, working in our office a day and a half per week. During his free time, he enjoys traveling, especially tandem cycling trips, reading and adores spending time with his grandchildren.
Steven Young , D.D.S.
Dr. Steven H. Young grew up in Great Neck, NY, just outside of New York City. He is a board-certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon who received his undergraduate degree in Biology from California Institute of Technology (CalTech) and his Doctorate in Dental Surgery degree from Columbia University in 1999. Dr. Young did his four-year residency at New York University/Bellevue Hospital in New York, NY, and started his practice in Johnston, RI in 2004. It has been our pleasure to have Dr. Young working in our Thames River office every other Wednesday since March of 2017.
Dr. Young is also a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, an honor bestowed upon only three percent of dentists. Additionally, he taught Boston University dental students as a Preceptor. Having achieved diplomate status of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, he continues to strive to be the best oral & maxillofacial surgeon possible in order to deliver the best care for his patients.
Dr. Young’s interests include, exercise/fitness, traveling, running/hiking, drawing, reading, volunteer work, teaching and horsing around with his children. He’s been happily married to his wife since dental school, and they have two wonderful children.
Erin Ransom, D.M.D.
Dr. Erin Ransom is thoroughly excited to be returning home to Southeastern Connecticut to join the Thames River Dental Group. Dr. Ransom grew up in East Lyme where she attended high school. Following her education at the University of Notre Dame and employment with Teach for America for several years, she returned to Connecticut to attend dental school at the University of Connecticut. While at UConn, she received an award for achieving academic excellence and demonstrating outstanding leadership. She then elected to further her education by completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program to ensure that she is at the top of her field. Dr. Ransom has since moved to Gales Ferry, where she resides with her husband and two beautiful children.
Erin Silk, R.D.H.
Erin has been a Registered Dental Hygienist for 12 years, since she graduated from Community College of Rhode Island with a local anesthesia license. She is well varied in her skills and clinical knowledge, and has administrative experience. Erin has worked for Thames River Dental Group since October 2017 and adds great energy to the team. In her free time, Erin enjoys live music, the beach and spending time with her daughter.
Terry Cisco, Dental Assistant
Terry has 38 years of experience working as a dental assistant. Terry has assisted Dr. Elliot Kimmel for 31 years and is very excited to continue her profession with our new practice. She finds patient education, continuing education and working as a team the most fulfilling. During off time, Terry enjoys doing various types of crafts, baking, working out at the gym, and spending time with her husband, two fabulous daughters and son-in law.
Sharon brings over 29 years of experience in the dental field, both in a clinical and an administrative capacity. She has worked at Thames River Dental Group for almost two years and loves the New London area, as she was born and raised in Connecticut. Sharon incorporates her knowledge of clinical dentistry and dental insurances to assure patients understand their proposed treatment and insurance plans. In her spare time, she enjoys long walks on the beach, cooking, spending time with her family and watching the Patriots.
